Extended-temperature quad- and dual-port gigabit discrete isolation transformer modules

(Product News, 07 May 2007 )

Pulse has introduced a dual-port and the first quad-port extended-temperature gigabit discrete isolation transformer modules. With an operating temperature range of minus 40 to plus 85 degrees Celsius, these modules are well suited for industrial and ruggedized Ethernet and military computer, telecommunications, and networking applications.

Pulse’s HX5400NL and HX5401NL quad-port modules and HX5200NL and HX5201NL dual-port modules are part of Pulse’s Quattro (quad-port) and Dos (dual-port) series of high-density gigabit transformer modules. At 29mm long x 17.5mm wide x 11mm high for the quad-port and 14.7mm long x 17.5mm wide x 11mm high for the dual-port, these modules are 50 percent smaller than currently available modules. They are solder bumped and tested for easy surface mount (SMT) attachment to the printed circuit board (PCB). Small size and ball grid array (BGA) design provide flexibility for designers to either fit more components on a PCB or to reduce PCB size using the same number of components. The quad-port module fits perfectly behind a 2x2 RJ45 connector, which makes board layout easier and more compact.

These modules are guaranteed to meet coplanarity of 0.005 inches (5 mils). The solder bump grid array interconnection enables high input/output (I/O) density, fits in a small footprint, and can be applied with SMT assembly, further reducing costs. Inner layers of the PCB can be used for routing because there is not a high density of through-hole pins. In addition, these modules enable very reliable and high-yield interconnects.

Pulse’s extended-temperature Quattro and Dos modules provide electrical circuit isolation to safeguard against electrical shock and reduce noise and electromagnetic interference (EMI) to maintain signal integrity. These RoHS and IEEE 802.3 compliant parts have also been tested and validated by top-tier gigabit integrated circuit vendors.

Pulse’s extended-temperature Quattro HX5400NL and HX5401NL quad-port and Dos HX5200NL and HX5201NL dual-port discrete isolation transformer modules can be used with Pulse’s unfiltered connectors, part numbers E5908-57A132-L and E5908-25A1J5-L respectively. The Quattro and Dos modules are available in trays and are priced at $2.19 per port for 10,000 units. Price varies depending on order configuration and destination. Contact Pulse for high-volume pricing. Detailed specifications for the Quattro and Dos modules are available on data sheet H551 at: http://www.pulseeng.com/products/datasheets/H551.pdf on the Pulse website.
