As the move to single- or dual-bus 42-V auto electrical systems continues, each component in the system will need to be upgraded. A new relay from Fujitsu Components handles high-current switching from auto functions such as blower motors, fans motors, electric power steering, and wiper motors. The relay has the same dimensions as other 12-V Micro ISO relays (22.5 mm long×15 mm wide×25 mm high) so it can plug into existing relay boxes. With 1 Form C/1 Form A contacts, the relay can switch 20 A (42 VDC) at locked motor load for at least 100,000 operations (minimum) or 10A at locked motor load for 200,000 operations. The contact structure is designed to improve current-break capability at both make and break contacts, and includes wide contact gaps. Coil consumption is 2.38W and there is no need to add external components to squelch arc discharge. Operating voltage is 27 to 50 VDC with operating temperature range of -40 to +125°C. The relay is US$2.70 in 10,000-piece lots.
