Wideband LAN switch IC has low on-resistance

( 01 Nov 2004 )
Bill Schweber

When you need to physically switch and route LAN signals, such as for 10 Base-T/100 Base-T systems, the TS5L100 and TS3L100 from Texas Instruments can help. These quad-channel, single-pole, double-throw switches act as 4-bit, 1-of-2 mux/demux devices, with a single switch-enable control to set high-impedance mode. Bandwidth is at least 300MHz, with differential crosstalk below 60dB. The switch handles bidirectional signal flow, with 3˝ (TS5) or 5˝ (TS3) typical on-state resistance. They operate from 6 to 6.5V (TS5) or 3 to 3.6V (TS3), with current consumption of a few µA. Internal diodes provide undershoot clamping on data and control lines for enhanced signal integrity, while ESD performance meets 1000 and 2000V models for charged devices and human body, respectively. Latch-up performance exceeds 100mA levels. The IC is available in several 16-pin package variations, priced at $1.69 (TS5) and $2.07 (TS3) each in 1000-piece orders.
