Hitachi Shenzhen Media Facility Ships 100 Millionth Media

(Business News, 17 Aug 2007 )

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) held a ceremony to commemorate the milestone of the 100 millionth media shipment since the production at its Shenzhen facility began in late 2004. Senior executives from Hitachi GST, local government officials and Hitachi employees were invited to witness the occasion. Dennis Rourk, General Manager of Hitachi GST (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd remarked that it was a celebration of teamwork.

In August 2003, Hitachi GST announced it was investing several hundred million US dollars to move the majority of its media manufacturing to Shenzhen, making it the first and the only media manufacturing plant in the region. At present, Hitachi GST employs 1,650 staff at its Shenzhen media factory, which has become one of the largest media factories in the world. Because of the plant's high quality and advanced media technology, the operation has become the company's center of competency for media manufacturing and its media are now shipped to Hitachi manufacturing plants in China and Thailand for hard disk drive assembly.
