Intoto sets new 16 Gbps firewall performance record with quad-core Intel Xeon processor

(Technology News, 13 Sep 2007 )

Intoto, the leading provider of security software for network infrastructure equipment, today announced that its iGateway Firewall has set a new industry performance standard as the first firewall to deliver up to 16 Gigabits per second (Gbps) throughput using Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor 5300 series.

iGateway Firewall is a comprehensive security solution that provides stateful packet inspection, content filtering, protection from internal and external attacks, traffic redirection, and easy-to-use configuration management. With multi-gigabit networks fast becoming a standard requirement for corporate and service provider networks, there is a need for security that won’t slow down networks with a large number of connections. With this new performance breakthrough, iGateway Firewall delivers the highest level of security and performance on standard general-purpose processors, enabling OEMs to offer high-value price-to-performance products.

“Security and performance go hand-in-hand and increased bandwidth requirements demand significantly improved security performance,” said Sathyan Iyengar, president and CEO, Intoto. “We have leveraged general purpose multi-core processors very effectively to deliver the performance often found only in higher cost ASIC-based solutions. With this offering, OEMs can meet customers’ stringent performance demands on their infrastructure equipment while reducing their development costs.”

“The performance of the iGateway Firewall on our Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor 5300 series is quite impressive,” said Rose Schooler, director of marketing, Embedded and Communications Processor Division, Intel Corporate. “The software offering delivers high performance with robust security and flexible deployment options. It clearly demonstrates the breakthrough performance of Intel silicon for advanced communications equipment.”

iGateway Firewall has a proprietary CyberDefense Engine that protects internal and DMZ networks. It provides protection from Denial of service (DoS) attacks such as SYN flooding, IP smurfing, LAND, ping of Death, and all reassembly attacks. iGateway Firewall performs NAT (basic, enhanced, service, reverse and 40+ Application Level Gateways), enabling users to connect multiple computers to the Internet, and provides port forwarding to run servers (Web server, mail server etc.) behind the firewall. The iGateway Firewall’s highly scalable design offers near linear performance scaling with the number of cores in the system. The iGateway architecture is designed to deliver optimum packet throughput and connection rate performance.

The Intoto iGateway Firewall is available immediately.
