Remembering Past Editors

( 01 Oct 2007 )

Hello partner
Michael C. Markowitz, Chief Editor, May 1992 to October 1996

For the past year, I have been leading a double life. During the day, I have been working as a technical editor—collecting information about products and technology, analyzing it, and presenting it in a useful form for EDN’s readers. At night, I have been busy designing an ASIC—a task familiar to many of you.

My reasons for designing the ASIC are numerous. First, I was an IC designer before I became an editor, and I wanted to feel the excitement that you feel when you create a working circuit again. Second, I wanted to see how difficult it was for an old hardware designer like myself to learn how to implement his design by writing software. And finally, I wanted to be able to teach you by letting you learn from my mistakes.

New face . . . new name
Chris Everett, Editor-in-Chief, November 1996 to August 2001

Well . . . for some of you I’m a new face. But, for many of you I’m an old acquaintance who has just moved “up the street” to a new home here at EDN Asia. (Actually, I’m returning to Hong Kong from Manila.)

For those who don’t know me, for nine years I have served as technical editor or chief editor on three other publications directed to engineers and managers such as yourselves. Before that, after I graduated from engineering school, I spent several years developing DSP algorithms and analysis techniques for radar systems.

A warm hello to EDN Asia readers
N. S. Manju Nath, Editor, September 2001 to June 2003

As elsewhere in the world, design and manufacturing trends in Asia are demanding shorter design cycles. You need to know what tools and devices are available to help you do your job efficiently; at the same time, both established and new semiconductor vendors are striving to reach you with device samples and up-to-date design information.

This is were EDN Asia steps in, as an honest broker, helping to meet the needs of both designers and suppliers. . . .
