Collaboratively developed LINUX Developers' Toolkit debuts at Power Architecture Developer Conference

(Technology News, 10 Oct 2007 )

Power.org introduced the Power Architecture LINUX Developer Toolkit and Reference Platform, 970MP Edition, an offering that helps members and their customers lower cost of development and accelerate their product's time to market. Based on the Power Architecture dual-socket 2.5 GHz dual-core 970MP reference platform with 8 DDR2 667 MHz DIMM slots, this offering is available as both a high performance Toolkit to developers, and as a reference design to all members preferring to make their own products.

"Power.org's 970MP platform availability marks a great milestone for Power Architecture Ecosystem enablement," said Kaveh Massoudian, program director of systems architecture at IBM and the chairman of the Power.org Reference Platforms Technical Subcommittee. "We have shown that through real collaborative innovation projects of tangible value we can deliver all elements of the Open System to the hardware and software developer community."

The result of close collaboration among Power.org members including IBM, Terra Soft, Broadcom, XGI Technology, and Wistron, this platform is a true illustration of the Power.org Open System strategy. All elements of the system's design are open including specifications and schematics, firmware source code, the XEN hypervisor source code, and the LINUX kernel code, allowing developers to create an optimal solution for their applications. Power.org members have full access to these elements of the design at no cost. Manufactured TOOLKITS will also be made available to SW Developers with Yellow Dog Linux pre-installed at a competitive price.
