The U.S. Display Consortium (USDC), a public/private partnership chartered with developing the flexible electronics and displays industry supply chain, today opened registration for its 7th annual Flexible Electronics & Displays Conference and Exhibition. USDC announced that the 2008 conference keynote will be delivered by Dr. A. Michael Andrews, vice president of research and engineering, and chief technology officer, of L-3 Communications Corporation. The keynote speaker and a global roster of companies and academic institutions will leverage this much-acclaimed conference to present their insights surrounding the dynamic future for this burgeoning industry as well as unveil the latest technology and product developments. USDC has enhanced the 2008 conference with a new track of academic and fundamental research peer-reviewed presentations from universities worldwide. The conference will be held January 21 – 24, 2008, at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak in Phoenix, Ariz.
Dr. Andrews, who has more than 30 years of experience in military and commercial technology endeavors, formerly served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Research and Technology and Chief Scientist for the U.S. Army. In that position, he was responsible for initiating the Flexible Display Center at ASU. Dr. Andrews started his career at Rockwell International, working on electro-optic and infrared research and development products. An author of over 50 technical articles, he holds several patents in infrared sensors, materials and signal processors.
Demonstrating the international attraction of the conference, more than 50 authors from a variety of companies including DuPont Teijin Films, E Ink Corporation, EMD Chemicals, General Electric Global Research, Hewlett Packard, ITRI, PARC, Philips, Plastic Logic, Prime View, and Samsung Electronics, etc., will present at this three-day summit.
“The depth of speakers and topics for this year’s conference is outstanding,” stated Abbie Gregg, conference co-chair and CEO of Abbie Gregg, Inc. “Our speaker roster reflects the expanding interest by companies and academic institutions in the emerging and exciting field of flexible, printed and organic electronics.”
The newest addition to the Flex Conference is the Academic & Fundamental Research Track, with four sessions of technical papers. The academic track is chaired by Dr. Greg Raupp, director of the Flexible Display Center at Arizona State University, and by Dr. Bahgat Sammakia, director of the Center for Advanced Microelectronics Manufacturing at Binghamton University. “We have had an outstanding response from noted academic institutions and authors worldwide for this first-time effort”, remarked Dr. Sammakia. “The addition of this track to the conference will strengthen and add a broader dimension for all attendees.” Academic community papers will include the University of Surrey - Advanced Technology Institute, Korea University, Johns Hopkins University, North Carolina A&T State University, National Chung Hsing University, Princeton University, Cornell University, the University of Texas at Dallas and and Northwestern University.
