Adeneo, a Microsoft Windows Embedded Partner Program Gold member with facilities in Europe and in the USA, presented its port of the .NET Micro Framework onto Atmel’s AT91SAM9261 ARM9-based microcontroller at the recent Embedded Systems Conference East. This port shows the ability of Adeneo to provide strong support and engineering services to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) looking to build products on the .NET Micro Framework.
The .NET Micro Framework expands Microsoft’s embedded offerings into a new market of devices targeting low-cost 32 bit-applications with low memory density requirements and low power consumption. This platform allows straightforward support of hardware with the ability to write device drivers in C# for hardware connected through standard interfaces, such as SPI, I2C, GPIO and UART, which results in an uncommon ease of use for OEMs designing products with stringent embedded requirements.
Adeneo’s port extends the reach of C# and .NET to Atmel’s AT91SAM9261 Microcontroller to provide greater productivity developing small, embedded devices. This port, combined with Adeneo’s offering in engineering services around the .NET Micro Framework brings new opportunities for OEMs addressing Building/Home automation, Medical, Industrial, or other embedded markets with strong requirements in terms of memory or power consumption.
“We are, for many years now, Atmel’s historical development partner for Windows Embedded CE.” says Yannick Chamming’s, General Manager of Windows Embedded activity at Adeneo, and CEO of Adeneo America. “This new field of co-operation with the release of the .NET Micro Framework port for Atmel AT91SAM platforms reinforces our working relationship and confirms our positioning as a provider of strong and reliable solutions to OEMs using Microsoft embedded technologies”.
Alfredo Vadillo, Atmel’s Managing Director for 32-bit Microcontrollers, commented, “Collaboration with Adeneo for industry-leading system software such as Windows Embedded CE and now the .NET Micro Framework is an essential building block in the infrastructure that we are putting in place around our ARM-based microcontrollers. The effectiveness of this support infrastructure is key to the success of these products.”
“Adeneo has been deeply involved in Microsoft embedded solutions for some time. By offering a port to the Atmel AT91SAM9261 ARM-9-based processor and associated services, the company strengthens Microsoft‘s embedded presence across an increasingly broad range of embedded applications,” said Colin Miller, Product Unit Manager of the .NET Micro Framework at Microsoft. “We are very pleased to have Adeneo working closely with the .NET Micro Framework team to accelerate innovation on small devices through great tools and services.”
