Rockwell Collins opens Engineering Center in Hyderabad

(Business News, 05 Mar 2008 )

Recognizing the Indian talent, the US-based Rockwell Collins has opened the first engineering center in India at Hyderabad.

This is the first design center outside the company headquarters in US.

Raj K Aggarwal: Rockwell Collis Vice-President Global Technology said, "While we do have other locations throughout the world that provide engineering support, this is the first Rockwell Collins' location fully dedicated as an engineering center".

"The decision to enter India has been motivated by access to high quality engineering talent, besides the cost savings," Raj K Aggarwal further added.

Raj Aggarwal commented, "There are a number of factors that led to this decision. Certainly, meeting our future demand for high quality engineering talent, and cost-savings were factors. This center will also help us be closer to existing customers in this region, and also positions for further growth in the regions growing commercial and military aviation market".

According to Raj Aggarwal, the primary reason for selecting Hyderabad is the availability and retention of talent required for Rockwell Collins design center in India. The infrastructure and the supporting environment are the additional reasons.

Presently, the center at Hyderabad will be focusing on displays development and flight management assistance.

Raj Aggarwal predicted that India is a growing market for our commercial and government systems businesses. In addition to the high quality engineering talent that we will be able to attract, another critical reason for establishing the Hyderabad Center is to have greater access to our growing customer base in this region.

The engineering center at Hyderabad, which would be operational in October this year, would start with a strength of 20 engineers

"In five years' time, we plan to increase the number to 500, and initially we will be focusing on displays development and flight management assistance products," Raj Aggarwal added.

The company currently supplies solutions to private carriers, including IndiGo and Jetlite and also looking for more collaborations in India.
"We do have an existing partnership with HCL, but we are also in talks with TCS and some public sector units such as Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Bharat Electronics Ltd and Electronics Corporation of India Ltd," Aggarwal added.
