Ramtron to showcase F-RAM automotive solutions for in-cab and under-the-hood applications at AES 2008, Shanghai

(Technology News, 13 May 2008 )

Ramtron International Corporation will exhibit at this year’s China International Automotive Electronics Products and Technologies Show & Summit (AES) in Shanghai, China. Ramtron will highlight how its nonvolatile F-RAM memory products are driving next-generation automotive innovations across under-the-hood and in-cab applications such as infotainment, safety, and event data logging. The show will be held at the Shanghai International Convention Center on May 19-21, 2008 (Booth 111).

F-RAM technology suits a wide range of intelligent, high-content automotive applications including data-intensive navigation systems; feature-rich audio systems; and the rapid data logging demands of advanced automotive safety systems, such as Event Data Recorders (EDRs). Ramtron’s Grade 1 (+125 degrees Celsius) and Grade 3 (+85C) AEC Q100-qualification program and its ongoing commitment to zero defects has enabled F-RAM’s acceptance among leading automotive suppliers across multiple applications.

At the show, on May 20 at 3 PM, Mr. Bennett will present a technical seminar entitled: “The Event Data Recorder: A Compulsory Requirement for the Future.” The EDR is similar to a black box recorder on an airplane. Its function is to record key data about an accident such as speed, acceleration, throttle position, brake status, seat belt status, airbag status, ABS status, and stability control, to help determine how the accident occurred. U.S. Government agencies use EDRs to support their automotive accident investigation programs, which, in turn, help auto manufacturers and civil engineers design automobiles and highways with improved safety and performance. F-RAM is the ideal memory for EDRs because of its fast writes, high endurance, and low power. F-RAM can be written 1000x faster and a billion times more often than EEPROM, at a fraction of the power: F-RAM stores data at higher intervals over the life of the EDR and ensures data integrity when the power fails in a crash.
