Xilinx intros two XtremeDSP development platforms

( 01 Jun 2008 )

Xilinx has launched two XtremeDSP development platforms: XtremeDSP Video Starter Kit for low cost video development, and XtremeDSP Starter Kit for DSP systems development with Spartan-3A DSP FPGAs; both are based on Spartan-3A DSP FPGA.

The XtremeDSP Video Starter Kit is a complete development platform for video applications that require low-cost and high-performance video processing. The kit gives designers of video applications everything they need to accelerate their development including robust video specific intellectual property (IP), reference designs, XtremeDSP and Xilinx Embedded Processing development tools, and a Spartan-3A DSP FPGA development board with video daughter card. Designers can use this kit to accelerate their development of high-speed video systems for cost sensitive applications including machine vision, multimedia set top box, endoscope, portable ultrasound, automotive driver assistance and other systems that require low-cost and high-DSP performance.

This XtremeDSP Starter Kit features the low-cost Spartan-3A DSP 1800 FPGA, which offers more than 20 billion multiply-accumulates per second (GMACS) for under US$30. The Spartan-3A DSP FPGA family delivers 25% lower dynamic power, 1.5X faster DSP performance for less cost than competing FPGAs. Also included is System Generator for DSP which enables the use of The Mathworks popular MATLAB and Simulink modeling environments when designing with Xilinx FPGAs. This kit delivers a complete solution for cost-sensitive DSP application development such as portable medical equipment, low-cost wireless infrastructure, flat panel displays and many other applications that require DSP performance along with low cost and low power.
