Micrel soothes jitters with introduction of new low-cost precision frequency synthesizer

(Technology News, 06 Jun 2008 )

Micrel has launched the SY89610L, a Precision Frequency Synthesizer featuring ultra-low jitter. The new device is targeted at Datacom, Telecom, Servers, and Storage markets, specifically, SONET/SDH, 10GeB FEC, 10GeB LAN PHY, and Add-drop MUXs applications. The IC is currently available in volume with pricing starting at $12.84 for 1k quantities. .

This product takes in selected frequency clocks between 19MHz and 694MHz and puts out selected frequency with very low jitter. The device input accepts AC- or DC-coupled differential signals such as LVDS, LVPECL, and CML for maximum flexibility. This IC has an LC Tank VCO and auto-tune circuit that improves signal performance. It is offered in a space-saving, 32-pin MLF® package. Featuring less noise than devices currently on the market, the SY89610L does not require any external components, lowering BOM even further.
