Technitrol’s electronic components plant in Mianyang, China is back on line
(Business News, 16 Jun 2008 )
Technitrol’s Mianyang plant in the Sichuan Province of China is once again in production and shipping orders, in spite of the earthquake that occurred on May 12, 2008. The factory manufactures discrete components for the LAN and telecom markets.
The buildings at the Mianyang site were built during the past two years with significant design enhancements to protect against earthquakes. As a result, they suffered only slight cosmetic damage which has already been repaired. No equipment was damaged. Although production and shipments were affected, the factory was able to resume operations 14 days after the earthquake struck. The production hiatus was extended because the company’s first priority was assuring the well-being of employees and citizens in the area. Since May 26, output and shipments have been progressively increasing, and the plant is expected to be operating at pre-earthquake levels before the end of June. Shortly thereafter, Technitrol’s Pulse electronic components unit intends to occupy a third facility at the Mianyang location, in keeping with capacity expansion plans made earlier.
In the weeks following the earthquake, Pulse actively assisted those affected by the disaster, collecting donations and providing temporary housing, medical aid and food. Once the safety and recovery of employees were assured, Pulse brought the facility back on line quickly and is now intensely focusing all efforts on fulfilling commitments to customers.
Technitrol maintains insurance for business interruption and property damage at the facility.
