Syniverse DataNet selected by NTT DoCoMo for roaming fraud protection

(Business News, 17 Jun 2008 )

Syniverse DataNet has been selected by NTT DoCoMo to protect that operator’s network against the growing worldwide risk of roaming fraud. Syniverse is a leading provider of technology and business solutions for the global telecommunications industry.

Syniverse DataNet – recently awarded the Best Roaming Product by the GSM Association (GSMA) at Mobile World Congress 2008 – will allow NTT DoCoMo, one of the world’s leading mobile communications companies, to minimize its roaming fraud in conformance with the GSMA’s new Near Real Time Roaming Data Exchange (NRTRDE) standards.

The GSMA has requested its global membership to adopt NRTRDE as the next generation of fraud prevention no later than October 2008. Syniverse DataNet provides roaming fraud protection by ensuring that roaming data records used to spot fraudulent behavior are exchanged between home and visited operator partners as rapidly as possible. NRTRDE supersedes the existing and now-outmoded High Usage Record (HUR) system currently used by operators. Adoption of NRTRDE as the new standard is expected to reduce the incidence of roaming fraud by up to 90 percent.

Syniverse DataNet has been developed to exceed the standards specified by the GSMA's NRTRDE initiative, giving operators immediate access to the critical information needed to combat roaming fraud and reducing data record exchange times from 36 to 4 hours or less.

Syniverse works closely with the GSMA in a number of capacities. Syniverse chairs both the GSMA Transferred Account Data Interchange Group (TADIG), which is responsible for NRTRDE technical specifications, and the NRTRDE Interworking Group (NRTIG), which is responsible for NRTRDE interworking procedures between vendors. The company also is a member of the NRTRDE Steering Committee, which is responsible for the overall commercial and technical guidance on NRTRDE, and is the official author and editor of TD.35, TD.63 and TD.64, key technical specifications that ensure NRTRDE data can be quickly and easily actioned by operators eager to reduce fraud.
