Avago Technologies adds new half-watt white LEDs to moonstone series of high-power LEDs for solid-state lighting applications

(Product News, 01 Jul 2008 )

Avago Technologies has announced the addition of new half-watt cool white and warm white light emitting diodes (LEDs) to its series of Moonstone power LEDs. Available in one of the industry’s thinnest packages, Avago’s ASMT-Mx60 LED provides solid-state lighting application designers with a robust and reliable package that provides high brightness illumination and easy installation. The ASMT-Mx60 is ideal for use in applications that require ultra-high-brightness LEDs, such as electronic sign backlighting, retail displays, commercial lighting, and accent marker lights. These cool white and warm white LEDs can also be used in specialty lighting applications such as task and reading lights.

Avago’s ASMT-Mx60 Moonstone is a high performance energy efficient device capable of delivering an industry-best lumens to watt (lm/W) efficiency for half-watt power LEDs with 30lm (typical) and up to 43lm cool white light output at 150mA. These LEDs have been developed to withstand high operating temperatures and driving currents and is capable of withstanding a high maximum allowable junction temperature (up to 145-degrees C), which is an industry-first for a half-watt power LED. With an exposed pad design, this robust half-watt white power LED features a wide 110-degree viewing angle, smooth radiation pattern, and excellent heat transfer from the package to the motherboard to enable this LED to be driven at a current of 150mA.

The ASMT-Mx60 series has a robust Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) resistance of 16kV (HBM) and provides designers with an electrically neutral heat sink pad feature option which enables easier thermal management and handling of LED arrays on a common substrate. The ASMT-Mx60 cool white LED is available in various color temperatures ranging from 4,000 to 10,000K while the warm white LED has color temperatures ranging from 2,600 to 4,000K.
