PMMV, Ministry of Public Health, Qualcomm, CAT Telecom and Huawei Technologies provide advanced 3G and high-speed broadband services to meet rural medical needs in Northern Thailand

(Business News, 09 Jul 2008 )

Qualcomm Incorporated has announced the provision of next generation broadband services, notebook computers and mobile phones to Princess Mother’s Medical Volunteer (PMMV) public health stations in the rural areas in nine provinces in Thailand. This latest initiative is the second phase of the Company’s Wireless Reach program with PMMV, the Thailand Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), CAT Telecom and Huawei Technologies, which provides rural and remote underserved communities in Thailand with the latest state-of-the-art CDMA2000 EV-DO high-speed wireless networks that will improve the delivery of critical health and medical services.

Qualcomm, along with its project partners, will donate 49 sets of notebook computers, printers and adaptors to 49 operational public health stations within PMMV’s network and Huawei Technologies Thailand will donate 49 CDMA-based EV-DO data cards and 49 C5320 mobile phones. CAT Telecom also will donate service for the aircards and SIM cards, including one-year of support for voice and unlimited data usage. In addition, a computer, printer and adaptor will be donated to the PMMV office to support the coordination effort.

PMMV regularly sponsors patients with serious illnesses to be treated in larger, provincial and metropolitan hospitals. The wireless broadband services enabled by the collaboration of Qualcomm and its project partners will result in more effective communications between smaller and more established clinics.
