Fast and Accurate Signal Analyzer from Rohde & Schwarz

The new R&S FSV from Rohde & Schwarz makes its market debut as the fastest and most accurate mid-range signal analyzer available today. Virtually all of its performance characteristics exceed those offered by other instruments in its class. In addition, the R&S FSV is alone in offering an analysis bandwidth of 40 MHz. This means it covers a wide range of wireless standards – from 3GPP LTE up to WLAN 802.11n. Moreover, the R&S FSV makes measurements more user-friendly with an innovative operating concept that includes a touch screen. The R&S FSV is a powerful analyzer for development and production.

Manufacturers of wireless devices and related components are faced with a big challenge. "Today's technologies require ever higher bandwidths. Yet, development and production time must be shortened and costs must be reduced," says Josef Wolf, Director of the Spectrum and Network Analysis and EMC Subdivision at Rohde & Schwarz. The company leads the industry by simultaneously satisfying these two opposing requirements in its new signal analyzer. "The R&S FSV shows that cost-conscious users do not have to forfeit first-class technology," says Wolf.

Offering 1000 sweeps/s in remote-control mode, the R&S FSV is up to five times faster than other signal analyzers in its class – which means higher throughput in production for the customer. It can easily be integrated into existing production lines because it is compatible with earlier generations of Rohde & Schwarz instruments Featuring an analysis bandwidth of up to 40 MHz, it can even analyze WLAN 802.11n signals -something possible in the past only with a high-end instrument.

The R&S FSV's total measurement uncertainty of only 0.3 dB up to 3.6 GHz and a mere 0.4 dB up to 7 GHz makes it the most accurate signal analyzer available up to 7 GHz. The base unit provides a complete set of functions such as the measurement of channel power and adjacent channel power or spectrum emission mask, as well as a wide choice of filters and detectors. If options for analyzing GSM/EDGE, GPP WCDMA, 3GPP LTE, WiMAX, and WLAN are installed, the R&S FSV becomes an ideal development tool in the wireless communications lab. Two additional benefits are the analog measurement demodulator and the capability to directly operate a power meter from the R&S NRP family.

Moreover, the new user-friendly operating concept offers a touch screen, an on-screen keyboard and an expanded control panel. This makes an external mouse and keyboard unnecessary, saving space and making operation easier in cramped spaces. Context-sensitive help, UNDO/REDO and AUTO SET are only a few of the frequently used functions available at the press of a key. Therefore, users can easily carry out even complex measurement tasks.

The R&S FSV signal analyzer comes in two models – one with a frequency range of 9 kHz to 3.6 GHz and the other with a range up to 7 GHz.
