Mentor Graphics Achieves OpenMAX Conformance for Nucleus OS Multimedia Framework

(Technology News, 06 Aug 2008 )

Mentor Graphics Corporation has announced that the Nucleus Operating System (OS) Multimedia Framework (MMF) has passed OpenMAX IL conformance testing on the Atmel AT91SAM9261 platform, making it what’s said to be the first commercial OS to achieve such platform conformance validation awarded by the Khronos Group. Reaching this milestone promotes easier porting of multimedia components to the Nucleus OS, speeding up design and delivery of multimedia applications.

The Nucleus OS incorporates a powerful user interface engine that enables the creation and customization of visually compelling, easy to use interfaces for consumer electronic devices such as mobile phones, personal media players and set-top boxes. Completely new designs can be realized without modification to the device’s software stack.

The Nucleus Multimedia Framework extends this capability, enabling rich audio and video content to be incorporated easily throughout a device’s user interface. Having certified OpenMAX IL interfaces further improves interoperability when porting and optimizing new multimedia components on this platform.
