Tiny Comparators Offer Ultra-low Power Consumption and Low-voltage Operation

(Technology News, 13 Aug 2008 )

Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX9060-MAX9065 ultra-low-power, low-voltage comparators. Available in two package options, a miniature 1mm x 1mm UCSP(TM) and a 5-pin SOT23, these devices maximize space savings, facilitate the prototyping phase, and increase design flexibility. The MAX9060-MAX9065 operate from a wide, 0.9V to 5.5V power-supply range, which is particularly useful for low-battery conditions in portable equipment. To maximize battery life, the MAX9060-MAX9061 single comparators consume only 350nA (max) of quiescent current at 5.5V. Featuring the industry's smallest footprint and ultra-low power consumption, these comparators are ideal for portable applications in which minimal space and power consumption are critical.

The MAX9060-MAX9065 family includes five variations of single comparators and one window comparator. The MAX9060/MAX9061 feature open-drain outputs and draw their supply current (350nA, max) from an external, 0.9V to 5.5V reference voltage. The MAX9062/MAX9063/MAX9064 offer either a push-pull or an open-drain output, consume only 1.1microamps (max) at 5.5V, and include a 0.2V internal reference. The MAX9065 3.0V to 4.2V window comparator features a push-pull output and consumes 1.3microamps (max) at 5.5V. All devices feature a 0.3V to 5.5V input common-mode range that is independent of the supply voltage.

The MAX9060-MAX9065 are available in lead- and halide-free, RoHS-compliant, 4-bump UCSP and 5-pin SOT23 packages. They are fully specified over the -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius extended temperature range. Prices start at $0.85 (1000-up, FOB USA).
