Renesas Joins Hands with Chinese Carmakers To Promote Auto Semiconductors

(Business News, 02 Sep 2008 )

In order to further promote its auto semiconductor business in China, Renesas, together with Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and ENGINELAB, cosponsors two auto electronics on-site seminars for Chinese carmakers, held in Changchun and Shenzhen, introducing engine control system with high-end MCU and ECU board, etc. This on-site seminar will be expanded to other 3 cities, Chongqing, Wuhu and Linhai, introducing auto dashboards, car body control and navigation based on Chinese carmakers requests.

China’s auto electronics market has been growing rapidly. According to a 2007 research report released by CCID, China’s auto electronics market registered a sales volume of 121.57 billion RMB in 2007, an increase of more than forty percent over 2006. As the electronic value in Chinese automobiles rises quickly, China’s market of auto MCU has also been greatly boosted. Currently, 16-Bit and 32-bit MCU have already taken predominant shares in China’s auto electronics market.

Renesas, the biggest auto semiconductor supplier in Japan, ranks No.4 in the world auto semiconductor market with a share of 7 percent. It profits from stratagem of Renesas, that with auto electronic products as one of its business mainstays. It has become a major player in China’s auto electronics market. With complete product solutions, it is a supplier for a number of world-renowned auto manufacturers, and its 16-bit and 32-bit MCU are extensively used in automobile transmission systems, control systems, safety systems, car body systems and information. These achievements are a result of Renesas’ over twenty years of experience of MCU application in auto electronics.

At the forums, Renesas shows the blueprint for its high-end MCU products, including SH core series with dual-core and multi-core, so as to significantly improve the performance of CPU/DSP power. Renesas will show its contribution to electronic engine control system such as ECU, explaining the related components and products such as the 32-bit SH series widely used now.

In order to provide better service for the Chinese auto electronic market, Renesas not only commits itself to introducing new technologies and developing new products to China, but also seeks to cultivate a stable cooperative system in China. It has established cooperative relations with Chinese governments, enterprises, research institutes, and universities, aiming at providing solutions to the Chinese market. For example, Renesas has collaborated with CATARC (China Automotive Technology & Research Center, a Chinese governmental research institute) since 2005 in auto electronics systems and the resulted products, ECU, have been adopted by a number of companies. Also, Renesas has joined in the Chinese government’s ITS (intelligent transportation system) project, which went into the testing stage in Changchun in 2007; providing 32-bit MCU application for engine control, EPS, and CIS/car navigation for Chinese carmakers.
