Vishay Releases “Industry's First” Amber and Yellow Power SMD LEDs in CLCC-2 Flat Ceramic Package With 400-mA Driving Current

(Technology News, 15 Sep 2008 )

Vishay Intertechnology has released what’s said to be the industrys first series of high-intensity amber and yellow power SMD LEDs in the CLCC-2 flat ceramic package with driving currents up to 400mA. The robust and light-efficient VLMK82.. and VLMY82.. devices offer low thermal resistance of 20K/W and high optical power from 5600mcd to 14000mcd for thermal-sensitive applications.
With an ultra-low profile of only 0.75mm, the CLCC-2 flat ceramic package of the VLMK82.. and VLMY82.. LEDs allows the additional current drive for a maximum light output while maintaining a high service life of up to 50,000 hours, making them ideal light sources in space-limited applications where thermal management is a key consideration.

With excellent efficiencies in brightness, lifetime, and power savings in a compact package (3.3mm x 3.4mm), the Vishay CLCC-2 devices are optimized for backlighting and illumination in automotive and transport, consumer, and general applications. Typical end products include retail and window displays; signage and graphics; household appliances; and automotive instrument panels and exterior lighting, such as brake lights and turn signals.

Utilizing AlInGaP technology, the amber VLMK82.. LEDs offer optical power from 7100mcd to 14000mcd and a typical luminous flux of 28000mlm. The yellow VLMY82.. devices provide optical power from 5600mcd to 11200mcd and a luminous flux of 26000mlm. Both LEDs feature optical efficiency of 40lm/W at 100mA, a luminous intensity ratio per package unit of IV max/IV min ≤1.6, and 60° half-intensity angle.

The new devices are compatible with IR-reflow solder processes, in accordance with CECC 00802 and J-STD-020C. Preconditioned according to JEDEC Level 4 standards, the CLCC-2 flat package is lead (Pb)-free and RoHS-compliant. The LEDs are automotive qualified AEC-Q101 and offer an ESD-withstand voltage up to 2kV in accordance with JESD22-A114-B.
