Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX2163A, a silicon tuner for use in 1- and 3-segment, ISDB-T applications operating in the VHF and UHF frequency bands. Fabricated using Maxim's SiGe BiCMOS process, this device offers the performance benefits of SiGe with the power consumption of CMOS. The performance benefits include a high, 99dB dynamic range and superior adjacent-channel performance. Designed to receive ISDB-T broadcasts in Brazil and Japan, the MAX2163A is ideal for cell phones, portable media players (PMPs), and automotive infotainment systems.
The MAX2163A contains all of the circuit blocks needed to receive ISDB-T, except a crystal and cellular rejection filter. Internal RF blocks include variable bandwidth lowpass filters, optional VHF and UHF tracking filters, and on-chip power detectors that enable closed-loop automatic gain control (AGC) of the device. Control is achieved through a 2- or 4-wire digital interface, and the IC can be shut down through either the digital bus or a hardware pin.
