New Delhi: Cisco Systems announced that Sify, in data telecom and Internet services in India, has selected the Cisco CRS-1 Carrier Routing System as the foundation of Sify's Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network (IP NGN). The decision is part of Sify's strategy to enhance its existing core network to meet customers' ever increasing demand for sophisticated network services and to address the rapidly evolving India market. The announcement further underscores Cisco's expertise and leadership in IP NGN technology and emphasizes the growing relevance of video, in the Connected Life of individual consumers.

Raju Vegesna, chairman, CEO & MD, Sify Technologies Limited, said, "We are in the process of transforming our network infrastructure into an IP Next Generation Network to deliver triple play and more. These technology investments are aimed at making us more competitive in the services we offer across enterprise and consumer segments going forward. Cisco was the right choice for us with their proven expertise and track record over the years. Our new core backbone infrastructure will enable us to extend our pioneering leadership and meet ever increasing customer demand, now and in the future."

P J Nath, executive president, Sify Enterprise services, stated, "Sify was the first to launch managed connectivity services over a TCP/IP network in April 1998, and has continually pioneered managed infrastructure services, as well as set the standard for such services in India. The migration of our core network infrastructure to an IP Next Generation Network enables us to offer more sophisticated services for voice, video and data, with higher levels of service quality for customers. With this investment, Sify has once again set the standard for the data telecom services industry in India."

Naresh Wadhwa, president and country manager, Cisco India & SAARC, noted, "We are pleased to extend our relationship with Sify to develop and deploy the technologies that would help enable them to provide advanced data network and Internet services to their customers. The CRS-1, a new class of router system, will let carriers seamlessly migrate all of their existing communications infrastructures for voice, video, and data onto a single, packet infrastructure. The IP Next-Generation Network (IP NGN) architecture will help Sify to constantly evolve to adapt to customer demand and new technology opportunities."

Rajesh Chainani, vice president of service provider for Cisco India & SAARC, explained, "Indian Service Providers are working towards greater control of their network and overall operations to succeed against competitive and market forces. IP NGN brings about a broad network transformation that encompasses not just the Service Provider's network but their entire business. We believe this is one of the first steps for a Service Provider to move towards becoming an 'Experience Provider', and we're pleased to work with Sify on this evolutionary path."

It is said that the Cisco CRS-1 Carrier Routing System, a core component of the Cisco Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network (IP NGN) architecture, offers capabilities, reliability and scalability required for service providers to offer any-play services. Leading service providers worldwide are now aggressively deploying and enhancing their network infrastructure to seamlessly provide high bandwidth Internet applications that will rapidly grow over the next ten years, such as voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), video telephony, video on demand (VoD), and IPTV.
