Multicore Association Adds LG Electronics, nCore Design, and Open Kernel Labs to Its Membership

(Business News, 02 Sep 2009 )

The Multicore Association, a global non-profit organization focused on developing standards that help speed time to market for products that involve multicore implementations, today announced that LG Electronics, nCore Design, and Open Kernel Labs (OK Labs) have joined the working groups of the Multicore Association.

"The addition of LG Electronics, nCore Design, and OK Labs to the Multicore Association, will provide tremendous value to our working groups," said Markus Levy, Multicore Association president. "Each of these companies brings a wide variety of expertise and experience on topics related to the efficient adoption and proliferation of multicore implementations."

The Multicore Association is committed to working with member companies, industry and universities to enable and further the widespread adoption of multiprocessing solutions. The organization is committed to architecting techniques and standards for how systems will be created and utilized.

"Interoperability, efficiency, maintenance costs, and reduced implementation risk will be key factors as more organizations move to multicore technology," said Ian Lintault, Managing Director of nCore Design. "Developers will quickly come to grips with the body of multicore knowledge if the best multicore programming practices are formalized and made available. Additionally, open standards are an important step towards extracting the maximum performance from current and future multicore offerings."

"The importance of multicore platforms in the mobile ecosystem is growing rapidly, and this will have a major impact on the use of mobile virtualization," said Gernot Heiser, CTO and co-founder of OK Labs. "We are pleased to be involved in the important activities of the Multicore Association."

The Multicore Association provides three levels of membership, with executive board, working group, and university members. The executive board helps determine the overall direction of the organization. Working group members are eligible to work on any of the working groups. University members may participate in any of the Multicore Association's ongoing development work, for which current projects include multicore virtual machine interface standardization, multicore resource management and communication APIs, and multicore programming practices.
