STMicroelectronics Opens New Taiwan Office in Taipei

(Business News, 09 Feb 2010 )

STMicroelectronics (ST) has opened its new Taiwan office at the Neihu Science Park in Taipei. This important milestone marks the 25th anniversary of ST’s successful local presence and its continuing commitment to the market that plays a strategic role in the global information and communication technology (ICT) industry.

“Starting its operations in Asia-Pacific more than 40 years ago, ST recognized early on the vast potential and growing significance of the region, and has become a major player in the world’s fastest growing semiconductor market,” said Francois Guibert, ST’s Corporate Vice President and President of Greater China and South Asia Region. “The new office underlines the importance of Taiwan as a key driver of ST’s ongoing expansion in this part of the world, which already accounts for 40 percent of our global sales revenues and hosts the backbone of the Company’s manufacturing and design operations.”

Taiwan is home to top-tier global ODMs (original design manufacturers), as well as some of the world’s largest EMS (electronic manufacturing services) companies and it is also the world’s second largest producer of IT products. With its comprehensive semiconductor industry supply chain, from integrated-circuit (IC) design and manufacturing to packaging and testing, accounting for almost 70 percent of the world’s contract IC chip output and a quarter of the global IC design market, Taiwan is setting the pace for the whole Greater China Region and the world. Clearly, STMicroelectronics’ aggressive growth in partnership with Taiwan’s local ODM and EMS players is a vital part of our future strategy.

“In the first 25 years, ST’s Taiwan staff has grown tenfold, building a strong integrated presence which includes an R&D lab that encompasses product test and design-in technical competence and failure analysis, sales and marketing, and customer support,” said Giuseppe Izzo, General Manager of ST’s Taiwan Operation. “The decision to relocate and expand the ST Taiwan office will further enhance close partnerships with local electronics powerhouses, promote value chain development and cultivate talent for the Taiwan semiconductor industry.”

Set up on an area of almost 4,000 square meters, the new Taiwan office at the Neihu Science Park accommodates a modern R&D laboratory and office space for further growth, enabling faster and better access to important customers in the area.
