Freescale DSP Powers Radvision's Multiparty Video Conference Server Design

Freescale Semiconductor’s high-performance MSC8144 multicore digital signal processor (DSP) has been selected by Radvision for use in its latest high-definition SCOPIA Elite 5000 Unified Communications Video Infrastructure Multiparty Conferencing Unit.

Radvision develops products for unified visual communications over IP and 3G networks, offering a comprehensive set of standards-based video networking infrastructure technologies. The new SCOPIA Elite 5000 Series is Radvision’s next-generation solution for high-definition multiparty conferencing. The SCOPIA Elite platform utilizes Freescale’s MSC8144 DSP to deliver multi-channel 1080p processing, telepresence connectivity, dynamic resource allocation and individual video layouts per participant, yielding uncompromised high-definition support.

Tuned for a myriad of wireline and wireless applications, Freescale’s MSC8144 DSP is the workhorse behind SCOPIA Elite high-definition video compression processing, enabling it with high channel density, energy efficiency and form factor advantages. The MSC8144 combines four high-performance 1GHz DSP cores based on SC3400 StarCore technology with 10MB internal memory and high-speed interconnects such as Serial RapidIO and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.

Once considered only as an alternative to travel, videoconferencing is now a conventional method for conducting live meetings and has become a core business tool for both large and small enterprises. The increasingly rapid deployment of videoconferencing systems is the result of improved reliability, quality of service, lower equipment and bandwidth costs and the migration to IP networks. Other contributing factors to this growth include the availability of scheduling tools, as well as improved centralized management and ease-of-use.
