Xtera Communications Inc. and Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI) have announced the extension of their technology alliance in the field of submarine and long-haul transmission solutions.
HHI will use its facilities and expertise to assist in the development of next generation transmission solutions for undersea networks by providing consultancy exclusively to Xtera. This alliance includes work on advanced modulation and detection schemes and is expected to enhance Xtera's submarine terminal equipment to deliver even higher capacities, enabling network operators to further lengthen the lifetime of submarine systems through upgrades.
"Our long standing alliance with Xtera is of high importance to HHI, as this helps showcase our level of expertise in this highly demanding field and cements our practical connections to the communications industry," said Hans-Joachim Grallert, Managing Director of HHI.
"Xtera is a world leader in submarine upgrades, and this alliance enables us to maintain and expand this positionhelping carriers deter the need to build new systems," said Hervé Février, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Xtera. This alliance further demonstrates Xtera's commitment to extend its leadership developing high bandwidth technology for submarine networks."
