Wind River and LSI Collaborate on Optimized Multicore Solutions for Networking Applications

(Top News, 30 Jun 2010 )

Wind River and LSI Corp. have entered into a multi-year strategic collaboration to co-market optimized multicore hardware and software solutions. Tightly integrated solutions from the two companies will be offered for telecommunications and networking infrastructure customers by aligning long-term product roadmaps, sales and marketing, engineering resources and professional services. Wind River will commercially support the LSI family of Axxia Communication Processors with board support packages for its software portfolio, including the Wind River Linux and VxWorks operating system platforms and Wind River Workbench and Wind River Workbench On-Chip Debugging tools.

“Wind River and LSI are working to achieve greater levels of performance to address the explosion of wireless data traffic and the need for increased network intelligence,” said Mike Langlois, General Manager for Networking and Telecommunications at Wind River. “Our commitment to build this relationship allows us to offer optimized multicore hardware and software solutions so customers can meet quality of service expectations and performance demands, and drive higher average revenue per user.”

“Networking and telecom equipment manufacturers face tremendous challenges that require proven communication processor solutions that can handle much higher packet loads with deterministic performance, helping generate more revenue with greater customer satisfaction,” said Charlie Kawwas, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Semiconductor Solutions Group at LSI. “Forming a strategic relationship with Wind River brings together best-in-class multicore hardware and software platform solutions our mutual customers can use to develop highly competitive next generation wireless, wireline and enterprise products.”

The combination of Wind River software and LSI hardware solutions helps build an ecosystem delivering world-class solutions for the networking infrastructure market. The integration of Wind River software with the LSI Axxia family supports the wide spectrum of network elements that network equipment providers can use to develop, optimize and test new wireless, wireline and enterprise elements.

The LSI family of Axxia Communication Processors is built on an asymmetric multicore architecture and is capable of managing huge volumes of wireless traffic at wirespeed and delivering highly deterministic performance. LSI has also developed a wide array of intelligent offload engines, including those focused on industry-proven packet classification, traffic management, wirespeed security processing and deep packet inspection. The Axxia processor family also features the groundbreaking LSI Virtual Pipeline message-passing technology, which uses distributed queue management to optimize inter-processor message routing, resulting in improved efficiency and less on-chip traffic congestion.
