Fairchild Semiconductor has developed the FXMA2102 – a configurable dual-voltage supply translator and level shifter that translates voltage levels in I2C bus interface applications. The FXMA2102 is a high performance translator designed for bi-directional voltage translation between any two levels from 1.65V to 5.5V. The two ports of the device have auto-direction sensing capability, allowing either port to sense an input signal and transfer it as an output signal to the other port.
The FXMA2102 accommodates standard and fast I2C bus modes, and works as a translator, buffer and repeater. Additionally, it features non-preferential power-up, allowing either VCC to be powered-up first. Inputs and outputs track VCC levels, making the device fully configurable. The open drain inputs/outputs allow the device to work in push-pull and open drain environments.
The FXMA2102 maximizes load capacitance on the I2C bus, offers lower power consumption than competitive devices and provides ESD protection that exceeds 8kV HBM. Available in an 8-terminal leadless MicroPak package (1.6x1.6mm) or Ultrathin MLP (1.2x1.4mm), the FXMA2102 is ideal for use in smartphones, mobile phones, netbooks, smartbooks, mobile internet devices, portable medical devices and set-top-box designs.
