Flextronics has formed a partnership with Tsinghua University (TU) in Beijing, China, whereby the company will fund the development of a comprehensive Corporate Social and Environmental (CSER) curriculum within TU's School of Economics and Management (SEM). This new curriculum will vanguard the establishment of a world-class CSER course of study, with a focus on educating future generations of business and technology leaders on the fundamentals of social, ethical and environmentally responsible leadership and workplace practices.
"We believe that impactful leaders must have a well-rounded understanding of the sustainability issues that affect our communities. Our partnership with Tsinghua University is strategic to our organization and synergistic with Flextronics' CSER initiatives, where our funds will help the school conduct collaborative CSER research, course development, and lectures on current and emerging social, ethics and environmental areas," said Mike McNamara, Flextronics' Chief Executive Officer. "We are thrilled to embark on program development initiatives with Tsinghua University and look forward to the many positive outcomes that will result from this new academic program."
Financial contributions from Flextronics will initially support specific CSER program development areas within Tsinghua University, including: • Collaborative research programs and development activities that will be overseen by a world class professor. • Research design, implementation, and reporting procedures for the analyses and public distribution of reports that examine the effectiveness of existing global CSER activities. • Course development, where Flextronics and TU will jointly develop CSER and business ethics courses for undergraduate and graduate students. Flextronics and TU will also jointly host CSER workshops and annual international conferences. • Internships opportunities and course work projects that will be offered to select TU students.
"Through this partnership with Flextronics, we expect future graduates from Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management to acquire a solid understanding of CSER and, therefore, make business decisions that strike an appropriate balance between profit, people, and planet," said Professor Yingyi Qian, Dean of Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management. "We believe this will ultimately help China create a more sustainable society and are very eager to begin work on this new curriculum."
