Microsemi Joins HDBaseT Alliance

(Business News, 29 Dec 2010 )

Microsemi Corp. has joined the HDBaseT Alliance as a Contributor Member. Microsemi will be leveraging its expertise in developing critical, high-efficiency power solutions to help the alliance drive improvements in digital home entertainment energy efficiency, and other power standards.

The HDBaseT Alliance is a cross-industry alliance founded by LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Valens Semiconductor. The alliance was formed to promote and standardize HDBaseT technology, which enables delivery of uncompressed, full-HD (high-density) multimedia content plus internet connectivity, control and power over an ordinary CAT5 Ethernet cable, across distances of up to 100m (328ft). Additionally, HDBaseT’s power over cable feature sends 100W of power to a device using a single Ethernet cable as the power transmission medium, requiring no additional power source.

“We are honored to welcome Microsemi as a valued member and representative of the HDBaseT Alliance,” said Ariel Sobelman, President and Chairman, HDBaseT Alliance. “With support from leading companies such as Microsemi, HDBaseT technology is positioned to become the unrivaled next-generation home networking transport. By working collaboratively to leverage our members’ collective and invaluable expertise, we are confident we can accomplish this goal.”
