ACL Semiconductors Sees Growth in NAND Flash Distribution

(Business News, 22 Feb 2011 )

ACL Semiconductors Inc., a China-based distributor of Samsung memory components in Hong Kong and Southern China, expects to benefit from the increased global demand of Samsung NAND Flash memory products, which ACL began to distribute in the third quarter of 2010.

ACL offers "Total Memory Solutions" for a wide variety of components including DRAM, NAND Flash and Graphic RAM. NAND Flash is used in today's highly popular consumer electronic devices, such as smartphones and Android-based tablets, mainly for the storage of photos, music, books and movies. Tablet consumption of NAND Flash is expected to increase to 2.3 billion gigabytes (GB) in 2011, a 4.8 times increase over 477 million GB in 2010. Shipments of tablet memory are expected to grow at a steady pace until eventually hitting 12.3 billion GB in 2014 (all data according to leading market research firm IHS iSuppli).

Alan Yang, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ACL, commented, "This is a very exciting time for ACL, as we initiated shipments of Samsung NAND Flash memory in the second half of 2010. We believe we are at the very beginning of a long growth cycle in the NAND Flash sector. Every day we are seeing more tablets, smartphones, digital cameras, and other portable devices emerge on the market. NAND Flash memory is at the heart of these devices, and ACL is in a great position to capitalize on this opportunity."

iSuppli anticipates NAND Flash revenue will reach $22 billion this year, up 18 percent from $18.7 billion in 2010. ACL began promoting Samsung's high density NAND Flash in the third quarter of 2010. The promotion helped increase ACL's total sales volume to a 35 percent year-over-year increase in the third quarter 2010.
