RFID mini-transponders boast lifespan of more than 30 years

(Product News, 06 Feb 2012 )

Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) has unveiled what it claims to be the world's smallest half-duplex (HDX) RFID glass encapsulated mini-transponders. According to the company, the 12mm transponders enable customers to embed tags into smaller objects including tools, medical instruments, and package and inventory tracking devices. It can also be used for fish and livestock tracking and pet ID.

The TRPGR30TGC and TRPGP40TGC are ready-to-use and 100 percent backward compatible with TI's RFID software and readers including power and control modules, and micro readers. The TRPGP40TGC is programmable according to ISO 11784/11785 global livestock ID standards. Thus, customers can create compatible products that can be read by 134.2kHz ISO-compliant receivers/infrastructure worldwide.

TI's HDX technology features a read range that extends up to 50cm and allows for easier tag spotting for fish tracking in both fresh and salt water environments. The HDX technology has high resistance to noise through frequency-shift keying (FSK) modulation and consistent performance through parametric testing and electronic resonance tuning.

The TRPGR30TGC and TRPGP40TGC mini-transponders flaunt a lifespan of more than 30 years. The devices are available at $2.90 for 1,000-unit orders. The MRD2EVM USB evaluation kit supports all functions of TI's RFID tags such as reading/writing as well as programming the TRPGP40TGC mini-transponders.
