Avago outs front-end module for Wi-Fi access points

Avago Technologies has introduced a front-end module for Wi-Fi access points. The AFEM-S105 module combines a power amplifier, directional coupler and SPDT antenna switch. The power amplifier is optimized for IEEE 802.11 that allows the module to streamline design of mobile and fixed wireless data applications from 5.15GHz to 5.85GHz.

The front-end modules integrate multiple high-performance technologies to reduce PCB board footprint and simplify design. The AFEM-S105 module leverages the company’s 0.25µm GaAs enhancement-mode pHEMT process technology. The module exhibits flat gain and good match while providing linear power efficiency to meet 802.11a/n mask conditions.

The AFEM-S105 module features high Tx-Rx switch isolation and RF ports matched to 50Ω. It touts a gain of 28dB and meets FCC 15.205 emission requirements at 15dBm. Additionally, the company said the front-end module is stable under all loads or conditions.

Packaged as 3.2x3.2x0.6mm products, samples and production quantities are now available from the company.
