Using the INA19x high-side current sense monitor from Texas Instruments/Burr Brown, designers can handle common mode input ranges of -16 to +80V, a common and often challenging problem in automotive, motor control, industrial, welding, and battery-management applications. In many cases, the common-mode signal includes ground and negative levels, even for highside monitoring. The SOT23 device has a single-supply range of +2.7 to +18V, and boasts 3% maximum error over the -40_ to +125_ C temperature range, sufficient for most applications. The 40kHz bandwidth is compatible with high-speed applications. The family members are available in three output voltage functions, of 20, 50, and 100 V/V, and priced at 80 cents in 1000- unit quantities.
