Digital audio broadcasting (DAB) has emerged as a next generation communication technology. From radio broadcasting, DAB has expanded into multimedia broadcasting and now enables high quality audio and visual functions to be used anywhere with a cellular phone or PDA.
Recently, Samsung Electro-Mechanics (SEM) introduced what it claims as the world's smallest DAB module for mobile handsets, developed in collaboration with Frontier Silicon, a Europe-based DAB chip provider.
The 3033832.5mm DAB module yields a 2.8cc receiver capable of 500mW output. Other available models with similar output (480mW) take up four times as much space. The latest device will enable small mobile products to support DAB.
