Vishay's energy-saving replacement for incandescent lamps

( 01 Dec 2003 )

Vishay Intertechnology has announced that it has completed its "ultra"Đbright TLCx5100 LED series with the new TLCW5100, what it claims as "an exceptionally bright and highly visible 5mm white LED designed to meet the demands of high-end lighting applications.

Built on high-efficiency InGaN technology, the TLCW5100 is a clear, non-diffused LED with 0.33 chromasticity and typical luminous intensity of 4000mcd. A 9ˇ angle of intensity and an untinted plastic lens are optimized to provide "exceptional light output and visibility," it is claimed.

Devices in the TLCx5100 series, which also includes red, blue, yellow, and true green versions with luminous intensity as high as 20,000mcd, serve as energy-saving and more reliable alternatives to incandescent lamps in a broad range of applications including interior and exterior lighting, outdoor display panels, automotive instrumentation and front-panel indicators, and light guide designs.

In addition to a maximum dc forward current of 30mA and reverse voltage of 5V, the TLCW5100 features thermal resistance of 300K/W, an ESD-withstand voltage of 1kV, and an operating temperature range of Đ40 to +100ˇC. To ensure even lighting, TLCx5100 LEDs are luminous intensity and color categorized for each packing unit.
