The two-phase ISL6310 and three-phase ISL6308 PWM controllers from Intersil provide high-current MOSFET drivers to reduce component count and increase overall control precision. Factors such as voltage droop are pin-programmable, to meet the needs of specific memory design, such as double data rate (DDR) and chipset cores which different needs than CPUs. Within each controller is a unity-gain amplifier for remote voltage sensing, to compensate for differences between local and remote grounds. The gatedriver bias voltage can be set between 5 and 12V, so designers can trade off between the switching and conduction losses of upper and lower MOSFETs; these controllers can also precharge the output to minimize output voltage disturbances. Both ICs, include a full range of protection modes, and are housed in QFN packages. The 32-lead ISL6310 is $1.80 and the 40-lead ISL6308is $2.25 (1000 pieces).
