PIC microcontrollers allow easy migration

( 01 Dec 2005 )

Microchip Technology¡¯s four Flash 8-bit PIC microcontrollers offer a costeffective and code-compatible migration path from existing 8- and 14-pin package options to 20-pin microcontrollers with a richer set of peripherals. These microcontrollers provide engineers with enhanced features such as steering-capable pulsewidth mod-ulation (PWM) and a synchronous serial port with address-masking for I2C, while offering additional program and data memory. Engineers are faced with a continuous challenge of designing smaller products with more functionality in a shorter time. Additionally, consumers expect higher quality levels, lower cost and longer battery life.

Microchip¡¯s PIC16F685/687/ 689/690 come with smaller 44 QFN package options, easy migration from other PIC microcontrollers to shorten the design time, and several new enhancements to increase functionality while reducing total system cost. The four microcontrollers also incorporate Microchip¡¯s nanoWatt Technology features for more control over the power consumption of the microcontroller. The PIC16F685/687/ 689/690 microcontrollers serve a broad market, including battery-powered devices (security systems, smoke and CO detectors, handheld devices); power conversion (power supplies, DC/DC converters, battery chargers); and motor control (industrial, home appliances, power tools).
