High speed flash memory selection in portable designs

( 01 Nov 2003 )

Fairchild Semi-conductor International has launched four new additions to its NC7 series of TinyLogic low power devices. The NC7SV19, a 1-of-2 Decoder/ Demultiplexer, is specifically designed for high-speed flash memory selection while operating from low operating voltage and minimal space requirements.

Three dual buffers and inverters with and without Schmitt trigger inputs ease the connectivity of new feature functions, an especially important design consideration in accommodating convergent trends in cell phones, PDAs, notebooks, digital cameras and other portable devices.

The NC7SV19 1-of-2 Decoder/Demulti-plexer offers typical propagation delay of 3ns at 1.65 to 1.95V, performance that was available in earlier version at 2.5V and higher. Its CMOS design supports longer battery operating time by consuming 30% less power than standard LCX single-gate components. Depending on the logic state (high or low) applied to the device's dual inputs, the function provides a chip-select level to either or both outputs.

The NC7WV and NC7WP series dual buffers and inverters combine high performance, low (battery) voltage operation and choice of packaging, including 6-lead SC70 and a chip-scale MicroPak, the latter requiring only 1.5mm2 mounting space. Their low power series dual bit buffers and inverter facilitate near seamless additions of new features to cell phones and ultra portables, maximizing design options in accommodating convergent trends.

All models come in 6-lead SC70 and in leadless, chip-scale MicroPak packaging. NC7SV19, $0.25 (1000); NC7WP14, NC7WP16 and NC7WP17, $0.17 (1000).
