Tiny 10.7Gbps equalizer extends reach over FR-4 or cable
( 01 Oct 2003 )
Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX3805 10.7Gbps adaptive receive equalizer. For 10Gbps NRZ serial data in serial communications applications, this equalizer extends the usable length up to 0.75m on 6-mil FR-4 or up to 8m on RG-188A/U type coaxial cable. Use the MAX3805 to compensate for long 10Gbps copper links in backplane, rack-to-rack, and shelf-to-shelf interconnection applications.
The MAX3805 provides 20dB of automatically adaptive receive equalization at 5GHz for PCB signal integrity applications from 9.95 to 10.7Gbps. It operates from a 3.3V supply and allows CML inputs and outputs to dc-couple to 1.8, 2.5, or 3.3V ICs, thereby saving off-chip component count.
This 333mm chip achieves <30ps peak-to-peak jitter performance with 135mW of power consumption at 3.3V. The MAX3805 operates over a temperature range of -40 to 858C. $10.95 (1000).
