Modular Plug & Play PFC family released

( 01 Oct 2003 )

Green Power Technologies (GPT) has announced the release of its "Plug & Play" modular power factor correction (PFC) product family.

The new product line, which is based on a simplified control method that enables the correction of total harmonic distortion without sensing the input line voltage, will allow power supply manufacturers to reduce time-to-market and improve their ability to offer cost-effective products, higher power density, better reliability, system stability, and wider system protection possibilities.

GPT's products provide an optimized solution for a wide range of power levels. A highly reliable, robust and efficient APFC front end can be easily designed by just adding it a few components. This APFC controller frees the designer from dealing with control loops, compensation networks and greatly simplifies the PCB design. Due to the smart control method, the circuit is able to start up under full load conditions and to provide stability over a wide operating range. The integrated fast over-voltage protection, over-current protection and over-temperature protection, provide reliability even under rugged operating conditions.

"These products open new horizons for the industry that have to comply with the EN61000-3-2 standard," says Eitan Cohen, GPT's CEO. "Based on GPT's patented control and packaging method, GPT provides the demand for higher efficiency, higher power density, yet cost-effective products. GPT's Modular approach contributes to the Ôsmart power' new trend in the power management market."

"One of our primary objectives is to free the designers from the need to re-invent the wheel," adds Professor Sam Ben-Yaakov, GPT's CTO. "GPT's line of products needs no trimming, tuning or tinkering. We figure that the designer has better things to do than to wrestle with phase compensation loops."
