Dual optocoupler provides fast data line isolation
( 01 Jun 2003 )
A pair of dual-channel optocouplers lets you get fast digital signals from their source to their load, but with complete signal-path isolation. Available in two speed ratings, the Sharp PC4D570NiP (1 Mbi t/s ) and PC4D100NiP (10 Mbit/s) in SO-8 packages eliminate ground loops and noise while enhancing noise immunity and system safety. Applications for these single-die integrated optoelectronic components include driving plasma-display panels; isolating USB, RS-232 and RS-485 links; controlling audio equipment; and interfacing with high-speed logic. Offering 2,500V rms isolation, they have a maximum forward current of 20 mA and common-mode rejection of 20 kV. They are priced at US$0.90 cents for the slower version, and US$1 for the faster one, in 5,000-piece lots.
