TI DRE310 DAB solution provides more capability on single chip

TI has launched TMS320DRE310, the next-generation single-chip digital baseband processing solution for the Eureka standard. DRE 310 is said to be the first baseband to include on-chip support for features such as record and playback from Flash memory and SDRAM, time-shifting recording, and the capability for simultaneously listening to and recording different channels. The product provides MP3 capability and WMA decoder support on the same chip.
Says Gilbert Wai, technical marketing director, TI Asia, "DRE310 is the most integrated baseband and lowest costs bill of materials on market for DAB radios. DRE310 enables data features and integrated combo products that are not possible with analog radio, and at a lower cost and power consumption."
DRE310 accepts a wider range of audio and data bit rates than previous TI baseband solutions. An increased audio rate of up to 384kbps allows the system to receive the full range of digital audio signals. The supported data rates can process digital multimedia broadcast (DMB) applications.
Says Anthony Tsang, sales manager, DSP Emerging End Equipment, TI Asia, "With high level of integration and increased Eureka DAB capability, DRE310 will power several types of applications, including home, portable, handheld, PC and automotive." Automotive DAB/CD radios, which require the ability to decode the variety of broadcasted bit rates and must support different CD audio decoders, will benefit from DRE310's DAB features such as TII, FM switching, ensemble switching, TPEG and announcement support. Portable applications will have the ability to read and write to Flash memory cards, utilizing DRE310's direct interface to MultiMedia Card, Memory Stick and SD.
DRE310 will be shipped in Q4 2003. It will be available in either a 179-lead MicroStar ball-grid array (BGA) or a 144-lead thin quad flatpack (TQFP). US$18 (1000).
