Ali Corp has designed what it claims is the world’s tiniest high-speed PC video camera controller supporting USB 2.0. The M5603C features an on-chip USB transceiver, comes in a glueless, 64-pin TQFP package, and is capable of 480/12-MHz high/full-speed operation.
With a built-in color-processing engine for CMOS image sensors, the M5603C integrates four functional blocks, including a high-quality image codec, a USB 2.0 controller, an AC-97 audio codec interface and a µC with user-configurable I/O control to provide up to 30 frames per second of VGA or CIF size real-time video performance. Owing to its on-chip, high-quality ratio-adjustable video compression codec, the chip can support still snapshots up to SXGA (1280 x 1024 pixels). The device also supports sensor pixel and image enhancement, including defect-pixel correction, offset clamping, down sampling, color matching and white balance control, and noise reduction.
The M5603C supports user-configurable endpoints for isochronous, interrupt, and control transfers for video capture, fingerprint recognition or multi-function peripheral systems. The device includes a built-in clock synthesizer for a low-cost 12-MHz crystal or external clock, and it operates on a 2.5- to 3.3-V power supply.
The M5603C is equipped with Windows software support, including Video for Windows, TWAIN driver, and Windows XP/2000/ME. The device is suitable for applications such as desktop or laptop computers, tablet PCs, and handheld de-vices.
