Microelectronic relay meets telecom, instrumentation needs

( 01 May 2003 )
Bill Schweber

If you are seeking to replace electromechanical relays, but can't find a solid-state relay with a high enough load-current rating or low enough on-resistance, the International Rectifier PVT412A series may be the answer. Devices in this family have twice the available load-current capacity at ±400V off-state blocking, but with one-quarter of the on-resistance. Available in 6-lead DIP and SMT packages, the units are well-suited for on-off hookswitch, ringer injection, and ground start functions in telecom loops, as well as general switching. The relays are rated for 240 VAC(RMS) and 300 VDC at 240 mA, and dc-only loads to 300V at 360 mA, all with 4000 VAC(RMS) input-to-output isolation. On-resistance is between 2 and 6Ω depending on operating mode for these relays, which begin at US$2 (10,000).
