Intel Corp. has launched its world ahead program (WAP) in India for bridging the digital divide through greater accessibility, connectivity and education.
Intel will target about 850 million people with income below $3,000 a year for bridging the digital divide by introducing low cost computers. Intel also has roped in HCL, Millennium, PCS, Wipro and Zenith Computers to introduce low-cost, full-feature desktop PCs in the next two months.
Otellini, Intel chief in India, said, “By multiplying the effects of computers, Internet and education, we intend to accelerate the reach of technology benefits in the country over the next five years. By working with the Indian government and local vendors, we want to create a sustainable environment that offers indigenously developed tools for meeting the needs of local communities.”
