| Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited, a leading provider of customer-focused information technology and telecommunications solutions and services, today announced the launch of a new quad-core SPARC64 VII processor for SPARC Enterprise M4000, M5000, M8000 and M9000 servers. Delivering 80% better performance per core while using only about half the electricity, the new SPARC64 VII process is best positioned to meet the rising needs for performance-driven and eco-conscious users in Hong Kong. Based on Fujitsu’s experience and technology in mainframe computers, the new SPARC64 VII processor enhances performance significantly with four cores/eight threads per processor, operating at a maximum of 2.52 GHz. Compared to the SPARC64 VI processor, the SPARC64 VII achieves 80% faster performance. Using advanced semiconductor technologies, the SPARC64 VII processor also operates on 44% less power per core than the SPARC64 VI processor. As part of Fujitsu’s commitment to address customer concerns on costs, scalability and performance, the SPARC64 VII processor can be used with existing SPARC64 VI in a single chassis, thus enabling customers to introduce the latest processor into SPARC Enterprise servers that have already been installed at customer sites. This “mix-and-match” approach in processor deployment helps customer maximise operational performance with minimal investment in hardware upgrades. “The new SPARC64 VII processor showcases Fujitsu’s pioneering R&D capabilities and unrivalled commitment to delivering value to customers in terms of performance, scalability and the environment, particularly at a time when Hong Kong companies are under increasing pressure of inflation, soaring energy costs and high expectations on corporate responsibility on the environment,” said Mr James Pang, General Manager, Information System and Services Division, Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited. “The ‘mix-and-match’ approach in processor deployment is important not only in reducing costs and enhancing scalability of systems, but also minimising the environmental footprint of hardware upgrade or replacement in the long run.” In addition to superior energy saving, system scalability and performance upgrade, the SPARC64 VII processor also inherits all the RAS functions of SPARC64 VI, including hardware instruction retry, dynamic degradation and parity-protected processor registers, to ensure the levels of performance and reliability needed in mission-critical systems. Virtualisation features enabled by Hardware Partitioning and Solaris Container have also been retained in SPARC Enterprise M4000, M5000, M8000 and M9000 servers, enabling maximum performance and scalability and aiding server consolidation and virtualisation. Excellent energy efficiency and virtualisation contribute to a significant reduction in environmental load. The SPARC Enterprise Server with new quad-core SPARC64 VII processor is now available to Hong Kong customers.
