This application note provides a reference design for the DS2770 battery monitor and charge controller including all supporting circuitry for charging a single cell lithium-ion or 3-cell NiMH battery pack. Sample calculations for choosing support components for both fast charge and trickle charge is presented, along with circuitry to perform the battery monitor function and battery fuel gauge function. Protecting the circuitry and the DS2770 charge controller against ESD is also discussed.
